Point Reduction
How do I receive the point reduction?
We will notify the New York DMV within 30 business days after you complete the IPIRP. Completion of a course under the Internet Point & Insurance Reduction Program does not delete, remove, or erase any violation or conviction points on your driving record. Violations and convictions that involve drugs or alcohol will remain on your driving record for 10 years. This course is for point reduction, NOT point removal. The point reduction only applies to the 18-months immediately before the course completion.
** Point reduction cannot reduce your point total lower than zero, and if your license has already been revoked or suspended, point reduction will not affect that action. Points may be reduced only once in any 18-month period. Also, you are not allowed to “save” points to be applied for future use.
How do I know my driving record shows my IPIRP course completion?
You can Request a Copy of Your Driving Record from the DMV. There is no difference between a driving record you order online, at an office, or by mail. They are all certified DMV records. They all include a certification statement and the signature of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, as well as the same security watermark.
You can always Contact Us if you request your driving records more than eight weeks after completion of our course and still do not see the notice on your record.
How does point reduction actually affect my license and driving record?
The point reduction only applies to the 18-months immediately before the course completion. Point reduction cannot reduce your point total lower than zero, and if your license has already been revoked or suspended, point reduction will not affect that action. Points may be reduced only once in any 18-month period. Also, you are not allowed to “save” points to be applied for future use.
If you have already lost your license, whether revoked or suspended, point reduction will not be able to help you, nor will it prevent or cancel a mandatory revocation or suspension for violations like DWI, DWAI or 3 speeding violations within 18 months.
Note that the DMV’s point system is not related to any similarly named insurance company programs.

** Upon completion of our course, the New York DMV will reduce up to 4 points in the event that you are facing possible suspension or revocation of your license. Points able to be reduced include those that occurred within 18 months prior to completing our class. Point reduction does not remove, delete, subtract or erase violations, convictions or points. Point reduction does not prevent or cancel a mandatory revocation or suspension of your license for violations such as DWI, DWAI or three speeding violations within 18 months.
