FAQ

Insurance Discount

How do I get the 10% discount?
When you receive your certificate of completion, you can either send your certificate or take it to your insurance agency. You may then be eligible for a 10% discount on your Liability, Collison, and no-fault rates
How long does the discount last?
The 10% discount is good for 3 years. You may take the course once every 36 months (three years) to maintain insurance reduction benefits. We will even send you a reminder in case your forget! There is no limit on the number of times you can take our IPIRP course, so you can essentially enjoy permanent discounts for life.
If I take the course, will that prevent my insurance company from raising my premium down the road?
Unfortunately, no. The benefits of our course do not include preventing insurance companies from increasing your premium for other reasons, such as general premium increases, traffic accidents, or violations.
What if more than one person named on a policy completes the IPIRP course?
The insurance premium reduction applies to all motor vehicles principally operated by the motorist who completes the course. The discount can be applied to only one driver for each covered vehicle.
Will drivers participating in assigned risk pools and youthful operators receive the insurance premium discount?
Yes. Any insured driver of New York, who is the principal operator and completes our IPIRP course, may receive the 10% reduction for 3 years, from the base rate of your current liability, collision, and no-fault premiums.

Point Reduction

How do I receive the point reduction?

We will notify the New York DMV within 30 business days after you complete the IPIRP. Completion of a course under the Internet Point & Insurance Reduction Program does not delete, remove, or erase any violation or conviction points on your driving record. Violations and convictions that involve drugs or alcohol will remain on your driving record for 10 years. This course is for point reduction, NOT point removal. The point reduction only applies to the 18-months immediately before the course completion.

** Point reduction cannot reduce your point total lower than zero, and if your license has already been revoked or suspended, point reduction will not affect that action. Points may be reduced only once in any 18-month period. Also, you are not allowed to “save” points to be applied for future use.

How do I know my driving record shows my IPIRP course completion?

You can Request a Copy of Your Driving Record from the DMV. There is no difference between a driving record you order online, at an office, or by mail. They are all certified DMV records. They all include a certification statement and the signature of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, as well as the same security watermark.

You can always Contact Us if you request your driving records more than eight weeks after completion of our course and still do not see the notice on your record.

How does point reduction actually affect my license and driving record?

The point reduction only applies to the 18-months immediately before the course completion. Point reduction cannot reduce your point total lower than zero, and if your license has already been revoked or suspended, point reduction will not affect that action. Points may be reduced only once in any 18-month period. Also, you are not allowed to “save” points to be applied for future use.

If you have already lost your license, whether revoked or suspended, point reduction will not be able to help you, nor will it prevent or cancel a mandatory revocation or suspension for violations like DWI, DWAI or 3 speeding violations within 18 months.

Note that the DMV’s point system is not related to any similarly named insurance company programs.

Can this course reduce my driver responsibility assessment?
No. Currently, there is no accident prevention course in New York State which will affect a driver’s responsibility assessment.
If I do not have points on my driving record, will I be able to bank the 4 point reduction for later violations?
No. Points may be reduced only once in any 18-month period. Also, you are not allowed to “save” points to be applied for future use.
When will I see the points reduced from my driving record?
The DMV will receive the information and update your driving record within 30 days to reflect qualifying point reduction.
